HORN SYSTEM - SERVICE INFORMATION


DESCRIPTION

HORN

WARNING: On vehicles equipped with an airbag, refer to


RESTRAINTS - SERVICE INFORMATION article for
warnings and cautions before servicing the horn
switch.

The horn switch is mounted under the driver airbag. It consists of four pads that
make contact when the horn is pressed.
OPERATION

HORN

The horn system operates on battery current received through a fuse in the Totally
Integrated Power Module (TIPM). The horn system circuit is designed so that the
system will remain operational, regardless of the ignition switch position.

1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.


2. Remove the front fascia. Refer to REMOVAL .
3. Disconnect the electrical connector.
4. Remove the horn mounting fastener.
5. Remove the horn.
INSTALLATION

HORN

1. Install the horn.


2. Install the horn mounting fasteners.
3. Connect the electrical connector.
4. Install the front fascia. Refer to INSTALLATION .
5. Connect the battery negative cable.

The horn switch is mounted inside the driver airbag. The horn switch has three
contacts that are grounded when the driver airbag is depressed.
OPERATION

HORN

When the Driver Airbag Cover is pressed, the horn switch makes contact to ground.
The ground signal is carried to the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) and
the horn sounds.

1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.


2. Remove the driver airbag. Refer to REMOVAL .
3. Disconnect the connector from the clockspring.
4. Remove the three mounting fasteners.
5. Remove the horn switch.
INSTALLATION

1. Install the horn switch.


2. Install the three mounting fasteners.
3. Connect the electrical connector to the clockspring.
4. Install the driver airbag. Refer to INSTALLATION .
5. Connect the battery negative cable.
