TOPIC:
SCADA systems are routinely seen on ships. These are often referred to as Distributed Control Systems
(DCS). DCS have similar functions to SCADA systems, but the field data gathering or control units are
usually located within a more confined area. Communications may be via a local area network (LAN),
and will normally be reliable and high speed. A DCS system usually employs significant amounts of
closed loop control. SCADA systems, on the other hand, generally cover larger geographic areas and
rely on a variety of communications systems. In the light of above, answer the following questions.
Q. 1: Draw and explain the architecture of a SCADA system showing major components, and various
technologies used for their inter-connections. Enlist major differences between a DCS and SCADA system.
Q. 4: Describe in brief the wireless sensor networks. Describe any one marine application of WSN
technology.
TOPIC LENGTH: Main body of the paper, excluding tables, figures and references should be
approximately 1200 words.
