“A TANGLED WEB” REVIEW

My favourite story is “The Model Millionaire” by Oscar Wilde because it reminds us

about moral values that sometimes we forget or neglect. As the saying goes: ‘what goes
around comes around’.

Wilde tells us about Hughie Erskie, a charming young man, who wants to marry Laura
Merton. However, he has no money and all his business goes badly… Laura´s father, a
Colonel, would only allow them to get married if Hughie had 10.000£ of his own. One
day, Hughie visits his painter friend Trevor. He is painting a portrait of a beggar.
Hughie feels sorry for the poor man and gives him some money without hoping
anything in return. Some days later, Trevor tells Hughie the beggar was a millionaire,
the Baron Hausberg, and was really interested in Hughie and Laura. Hughie feels
completely stupid but thanks to his behaviour, Baron sends him a letter with a cheque
for 10.000£ which is a wedding present to them from him.

I enjoyed the book because the stories have an unexpected end and some are really
funny.

I would recommend reading it because it is easy to understand and could catch the
reader’s attention to finish it in no time.
