Beautification of Manila Bay

Talking about the beautification of Manila bay and its expenditure, is it really worth it?

The cost includes destruction of mountains and pulverizing dolomite just to spread it on the bay.

According to the government, the dolomite sand is not as toxic as people think. Whereas

dolomite can cause harm to our health specifically to our lungs for the reason that it contains

high toxicity materials.  According to Jaybee Garganera a national coordinator of Ayansa Tigil

Mina, “walang duda yung impact niyan doon sa vicinity would be pagkawala ng watershed.

Dahil nawala na yung watershed yung ability niyan to absorb water at mag produce ng water ay

talagang napaka hina na at kulang. Yung polusyon syempre because of the dust and operations

niyan we can only imagine yung impact niyan sa air pollution and eventually sa health ng mga

tao”.

It’s a form of dump and fill activity, the dumping of dolomite sand have composed

impacts in manila bay. Beaches will never be an artwork of human. Dolomite sand can be

eroded away by the next strong typhoons given that dolomite sand is a foreign material and it is

not naturally occurring at the bay and it happens even now that there is no typhoon. It’s just like

dumping things that are not geologically there that possibly has an effect in the ecosystem.

Economically, the cost is really enormous; P398 million where we can rather use it for

fundamental needs of the people especially in this time that we are facing the pandemic.

They should stop it now because we may cause a destructive movement against our

environment because surely, we will take the consequences attached to it.
