4.4. Traffic light indicator

Near each entrance of escalator is fixed one or two high-brightness LED traffic light. When the
escalator upward normal operation, the lower traffic lights display a green arrow, the upper
traffic lights display red upper line flag. In the maintenance state, both upper and lower traffic
lights show a red line flag.
If auto-start escalator has stop wait state,it must install traffic lights. When the escalator stops
waiting, if the passenger go into the escalator in the opposite direction, the escalator will follow
the direction of pre-set up and running, and the buzzer alarm, caution the passengers left, the
run-time warning should not less than 10 seconds by national standards.

5. Energy saving function

Passenger detectors, buzzer, traffic light indicators are applied in energy saving function.
Two running modes are available in energy saving function applied in VVVF control system,
normal energy saving running with inverter and auto-start running with inverter.

5.1. Continuous running

Firstly, turn energy saving switch, then turn start key switch SA21/SA22 to “UP/DOWN”, the
escalator is running continuously.

5.2. Normal energy saving running with inverter

The escalators are in energy saving mode acquiescently. When start escalator by the start key
switch, the escalator is running in high speed. After a pre-set period without passengers entry,

JSA07898E-AA i-con(2.0)Control System instruction

escalator will work in creeping speed by the inverter’s characteristic. As soon as the
passenger entry is detected, the escalator will smoothly accelerate to normal speed. Turn on
the energy saving switch, it will be into the continuous mode.

5.3. Auto-start running with inverter

According to EN115, escalators should arrive the speed at least 20% of the normal before the
user go into the escalator. And the accelerate should less than 0.5 m/s².
And also according to EN115, In the case of escalators starting automatically, a clearly visible
signal system, e.g. traffic signals, shall be provided indicating to the user if the escalator or is
available for using and the direction of travel. Thus the traffic light indicator is compulsory.
During escalator auto-waiting, if the passenger goes into the escalator from the direction
opposite to the pre-set direction of escalator, the escalator will start automatically along the
pre-set direction and buzzer beeps, to caution passenger take the escalator from correct direct
entrance. This running time is at least 10 seconds according to EN115.

5.3.1. Non-Energy- saving selector [SA31], [SA32]

It need for a key switch of the type of energy selector switch both on the top and bottom, the
switch function is used to select non-energy-saving operation. Turn the key to non-energy
saving operation before normal running, then turn up / down switch, then the escalator that is
in accordance with the continuous running manner.

5.3.2. Photo-electric sensors for passenger detection [B31], [B32], [B41], [B42]
At the function of Normal energy saving running with inverter or beam-type self-starting, you
can choose Through-beam photo-electric sensors installed on the upper and lower.
Passenger can be detected by these sensors at the entrance and export to achieve energy
saving running. 2 couples of sensors are installed on each fore skirting or upright post
according to function and type of escalator.
 Photo-electric sensors of self-starting function escalator can not be installed on
skirting in order to avoid dangerous by passages.

5.3.3. Auto-Start by proximity sensors installed under the landing plate

[B31],[B32],[B41],[B42]
Two pairs of sensors are fixed under top / bottom landing plate of escalator. When the
passengers riding on the cover of the machine room, they make the cover close to the
bottom, then the sensors will be active.

5.3.4. Auto-Start by Diffuse-reflective 3D sensors [B11],[B12],[B13],[B14]

One amplifier can control 2 pairs of sensors, left and right. One transmitter is installed parallel
under the receiver. If passengers comes in the range of the detection, part of the transmitter
diffused wave is reflected from the object surface, and can be detected by the receiver. Then
the signal will be sent to the main control board.
Adjusting:
a) Let one man stand on the pre-determined position

b) Turn the amplifier switches to zero

c) Turn the switches clockwise until both red and green indicator lighting
d) Turn the switches counterclockwise slowly until only the green indicator lighting .

5.3.5.Radar 3D sensors passenger detector [B51],[B52],[B61],[B62]

One amplifier can control 2 pairs of sensors, left and right. One transmitter is installed parallel
under the receiver. If passengers comes in the range of the detection, part of the transmitter
microwave wave is reflected from the object surface, and can be detected by the receiver.
Then the signal will be sent to the main control board.
Adjusting:
a) Turn the amplifier switches deasil, max area detection;
b) Turn the amplifier switches widdershins, min area detection.
