Ser 15" September 2020 Dear Parents/Caregivers Jnteenetiqnc! | =e —— ‘As part of year 8 science, your child is completing a ‘design it yourself” practical investigation ur current topic is Chemical Change. As part of this assessment task, students will be conducting an experiment that they have designed/modified. Students have been given the option of performing their experiments at home or here at college. The process we are having students go through is for them to provide a practical write up to me before they undertake the experiment, therefore, | am able to evaluate any concerns should they arise. If your child has chosen to perform their science experiment at home, we have encouraged them to perform their experiment in a safe location, with precautions taken to prevent any spills, damage to property ete. i.e. Coca-Cola on flooring/benchtop surfaces. Additionally, some students have elected to perform experiments that involve common household food products ~ these will need to be purchased at the students’ own expense. ‘The college will supply appropriate chemicals from the science laboratory for experiments done during here at college. Students have been encouraged to take this option. Please also feel welcome to get involved in your child’s experiment to assist them in documenting their experience should the opportunity and/or circumstances allow. Kind regards, ‘Mini Vithayathil (Pre-Service Teacher — University of South Australia) d,0907 info@schools.sa.edu.
