So, on what basis are the Newspaper horoscopes created..

They are based on the position of Sun in the zodiac at time of your birth.
Say At time of your birth Sun was in Capricorn...then you will read the Capricorn
column for the same.
Again there is a small difference in how the dates are mentioned..Western astrology
follows something called as The Tropical System wherein for them Sun enters a sign
around 21st of every month. Whereas for Vedic astrology we follow Sidereal system
in which Sun enters a sign around 14-15th of every month..We call it as Sankrant
for that month. say for e.g., one of the popular Sankrants is Makar Sankrant. when
Sun enters Makar Rashi or Capricorn sign on Jan 14/15th every year.
Now most newspapers go with the Tropical system
whereas, all Vedic astrologers go with Sidereal
system as they find it more accurate in their predictions.

So as per Vedic astrology, if your birth date is in between Jan 15 to Feb 15 then
your Sun sign is simply Capricorn here..
if your birth date is between Apr 15 to May 15, then your Sun Sign is simply Aries
Now why can't one possibly have predictions based on Sun sign alone...
