All PPS employees, and contractors using hazardous chemicals are responsible for disposing of these chemicals safely in accordance with Federal and State regulations. 1 Routine Disposal of Chemicals and Other Waste A. The Health, Safety, Environment, Qualily Control (HSEQC) Manager will advise Personnel on the proper disposal of chemical wastes. At a minimum, the following procedures will be observed: 2 3. Drums and containers used for clean-up will meet the requirements of DOT, ‘OSHA and EPA regulations for the wastes they contain Disposal of hazardous chemicals to the sanitary sewer is never permitted. ‘When using chemical waste storage containers, incompatible chemicals must not ‘be mixed in the same container (e.g.. acids, should not be mixed with bases; ‘organic liquids should not be mixed with strong oxidizing agents) Waste coils must be collected in approved containers. Disposal solids and explosive materials must be stored in seperate containers. B. Asa condition for pickup and disposal of chemicals by the responsible Safety Officer, the following requirements must be met: 1 Drums and containers shall be inspected for their integrity prior to being moved. When this is not feasible prior to moving, (.e. stacked, buried) they shall be ‘moved to a location where they can be inspected before further handling. 2, Chemicals must be separated into compatible groups. Leaking containers of any sort will not be accepted. 3. Dry, oily materials (loves, rags, wipes, pipettes, etc.) must be securely Contained in fire resistant, covered containers until removed from the worksite and disposed of propery. 4. Unknown/unlabelled drums and containers will be considered hazardous waste and handled as such until property identified and labeled. 5. Each breakable container must be properly boxed. Place all bottles in plastic. bags, then place in a sturdy container and use an absorbent cushioning material that is compatible with the chemicals. 6. Each primary container must be labeled with content, amount, physical state, and ‘the percentage breakdown of a mixture. 7, Each box must have @ complete list of contents or description written on an official hazardous materials packing list. For safety purposes, boxes must be of a size and weight so that one person can handle them. Boxes that exceed 45 pounds or 18 inches on a side cannot be ‘safely handled by one person and will not be acceptable for pick up. Work site Disposal ‘A. Pacific Process Systems, Inc. reintroduces all liquid waste back into the process systems at the host facility where work Is being performed. B. Any solid wastes generated are disposed of with permission at the host facility. C. In general, PPS does not generate solid hazardous waste. If a special circumstance arose that resulted in such waste, PPS would follow all applicable Federal and State Tegulations to dispose of it property, General Housekeeping Rules A Do: 1. Maintain the smallest possible inventory of chemicals to meet the immediate needs, 2, Periodically review stock of chemicals and ensure proper storage and labeling exists, 3, Ensure that storage areas, or equipment containing large quantities of chemicals, are secure from accidental spills, 4. Rinse_empty bottles that contained acids or inflammable solvents before disposal. 5. Recycle unused laboratory chemicals whenever possible, B.
