Connecting to our past. Building for our future.
May 4, 2017
Dear Friends,
| hope this letter finds you well.
Itis never easy to think about one's final resting place, but I felt it important to make you aware of an
‘opportunity that is now available to those of us in Memphis.
Baron Hirsch is proud to maintain a beautiful cemetery, where departed members have been buried for
‘over 150 years. It isa great merit to be buried in such a place where so many respected community
members, leaders and teachers have been laid to rest. We also know that there is great merit to being
buried in the land of Israel ~ a practice that goes back to our patriarchs and matriarchs.
For those who wish to consider burial in Israel, a new Memphis section has recently been established at
the Eretz HaChaim Cemetery in Beit Shemesh, Israel. The Memphis section will allow those interested in
being buried in Israel to still be located close to familiar friends, neighbors, and relatives.
Jonathan Gavant, formerly of Memphis, is spearheading this initiative in conjunction with Eretz
HaChaim, Jonathan currently lives in Atlanta, and has worked on a similar opportunity for their
‘community over the last few years. Attached is a brochure highlighting the services offered by Eretz
HaChaim and detailing the costs involved. Any questions can be directed to Jonathan; his contact
information can be found in the brochure.
May we find these discussions and efforts to be very premature, and may we all enjoy good health and
happiness to 120.
Sincerely,
fin Lehrfield

Dear friends,
I hope you and your families are well. Certainly, there are many more exciting topics to think about than
burial. However, we know it’s something that each of us will require after 120 years
‘A few years ago, despite our relatively young ages, Layala and | decided to purchase burial plots in Israel
in another section of the same cemetery you'll soon read about. A number of different factors influenced
our decision, and I'd be happy to share them (privately) with anyone who is interested,
‘As you will read in the enclosed brochure, an exclusive section in the Eretz HaChaim Cemetery near Beit
‘Shemesh, Israel was recently reserved for the Memphis Jewish community. This brand-new community
wide project is being led by Jonathan Gavant, who grew up in Memphis and now lives in Atlanta, GA.
‘After successfully leading a similar project for Atlanta's Jewish community, Eretz HaChaim has asked
Jonathan to chair our community's effort as well. Jonathan is available to answer any questions and guide
interested individuals through the registration process. His contact information can be found on page 2 in
the enclosed brochure. Jonathan will also make @ presentation in Memphis in the coming months —
details to follow soon,
In the meantime, | encourage you to read through the enclosed brochure and start thinking about this
important topic.
Wishing you the very best,
Ail UW

Xteiane Dear Friends,
JOEL MA FESTON As you know, it is a great privilege to be buried in the Holy Land
= of Israel. It is also important to be buried with one's loved ones,
Stekatteawncen which, for many of us, is in America and right here at the ASBEE
“=="e> cameteries. For those who are considering burial in Israel, a new
Memphis section has been established at the Eretz HaChaim
Executive Dioctor Cemetery in Beit Shemesh, Israel. Jonathan Gavant, formerly of
pee Memphis, is spearheading this initiative in conjunction with
Eretz HaChaim. The Memphis section will afford those interested
the opportunity to be buried in Israel and yet also among familiar
people, friends, neighbors, and relatives.
Eretz HaChaim has become well known over the past five
decades for its efforts in assisting Jews from around the world
secure a final resting place in Israel.
Attached is a brochure highlighting the services offered by Eretz
HaChaim and detailing the costs involved. Any questions can be
directed to Jonathan; his contact information can be found in
the brochure.
Rabbi Efraim Greenblatt z'tl used to say that it is a segulah, a
good sign for length of days, to make preparations for burial. In
that spirit, may our efforts in this regard, be they for a resting
place in Israel or in America, bring each one of us merit for a
long, healthy life.
Sincerely,
) \-~
