The FTA between Colombia and the USA is a treaty firmed between the two
countries. It consists of the trade of products to eliminate barriers that allows
free trade of products in their territories.On May 15, 2012, the Free Trade
Agreement (FTA) signed by Colombia and the United States came into effect
with the objective of promoting trade between the two countries. Currently there
are 97 products that can be exported to the United States if the required
sanitary and quality protocols are applied. In addition, there are 7 products in
the process of being approved, among which are Passion Fruit, Watermelon,
Melon, Gulupa and Granadilla; in addition, approval for paprika and mango is
imminent.

One positive things of this FTA is that, people from our country have the
opportunity to show their businesses, such as handicrafts or products from our
region, that mean, more economy for them and for our country. The biggest
advantage of this is that many people can get the chance to have a job, since It
encourages foreign investment, facilitating the entry of capital.
We have a clear example of one of the advantages of the FTA with the United
States, it is a great ally at this time where globally we go through a pandemic
because of a virus, as for the vaccine Colombia is waiting for this country.

One negative this is that, people will not buy foreign products, sometimes
people prefer aboard products and small local producers are unable to compete
on an equal basis with large foreign producers. Another disadvantage is people
may chance the type of products that they usually buy, so the products of our
region may disappear.
