1. Time-bound
a. Immediate thorough drying -3o seconds
b. Early skin-to-skin contact
c. Proper time cord clamping – within 1-3 minutes (term); within 1 minute (preterm)
d. Non-separation and early breastfeeding – 60 to 90 minutes

2. Non-time bound
a. Vit. K prophylaxis
b. Terramycin eye ointment
c. Proper positioning and attachment
d. Bathing
e. Anthropometrics
f. Feeding cues

3. Proper positioning
a. Facing the breast
b. Body is close to mother’s body
c. Whole body is supported
d. Neck is not flexed nor twisted

4. Proper latching
a. Mouth wide open
b. Lower lip turned outwards
c. Baby’s chin touching breast
d. Suckling is slow, deep with some pauses
