The first task that was assigned to me was a research paper that discussed how the internet and social
media has made it easier for consumer to disperse word-of-mouth (WOM) about a product or service
and gain knowledge about it. I found this topic quite interesting to read about because my interests lie
in digital marketing and hope to pursue a career in the same. The research paper included four studies
that were carried out in different aspects with WOM- influence of WOM dispersion and product domain
on choice, influence of dispersion and product domain of attributions and intention, carrying taste
similarity within product and taste similarity and openness to experience.
The second task assigned to me was related to the current situation of the world- the coronavirus. I had
to research the impact the pandemic would have on the tourism sector around the globe. I analysed
this with respect to the world and with respect to India. The pandemic will leave a lot of people and
employees without jobs and have major impacts on economies of a lot of big and small nations. I learnt
a lot about the industry considering it is going to be the worst impacted by the pandemic. My analysis
did lack content in this report which I hope to rectify and better in the coming tasks and analyses.
I think this experience was different than what it usually was for me in terms of report writing or
summary writing. The topic was also something that was completely new for me which made me keen
on reading about it. I was able to learn how to write a summary on research papers which included
experiments and their analyses which was new to me. I had to compare a report which had similar
studies and compile them into a single report which was also something that I had not done much
before.
I learned how to properly read and analysis research papers and compress them into a few thousand-
word reports. It did take some time but it eventually helped me get better at it. I learned a lot about the
topic given to me as well.
