Instructions: Choose two of the civil rights opinion columns from your portfolio. Compare the
columns with the UDHR by choosing a few elements that fit with your topic and explain how
they fit together. The more notes, the better! Finally, write an MLA citation for the UDHR and
for the two columns.

Comparison Notes

The human rights declaration says that all humans are born free and equal in
dignity and rights. In this article, they did not respect Trump’s dignity.

The article say that a “bad white white man will always be better than a good black
man”, which I think they are trying to use to point out the racism behind white
supremacist’s thinking. This type of thinking goes against the human declaration of
rights which says that everyone is entitled to all the rights (basically fairness) in the
declaration that are listed out, regardless of race. This is said in Article 1.

This article identifies a movement from Trump away from a pretence of white
dominance being unjustifiable. This is justifying racism, which does not go with
article 1, that people should act towards others in a spirit of basically friendliness.

I think that even though they are speaking against white degeneracy, the ability to
have an opinion matters, as expressed in article 19, and the ability to peacefully
gather in article 20. They are speaking out against other’s opinions, however, that
opinion is their human right.

Comparison Notes
Article 3 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights says that everyone is born with the rights of life,
liberty, and the security of the person. The news article provided discusses how Trump essentially
encouraged his supporters to shoot and murder people. This statement shows that essentially, Trump
went against Article 3. This source then goes on to talk about how these victims were not considered as
people under the jurisdiction of law. Article 6 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that
every human has the right to be recognized as a person under jurisdiction of law. Therefore, the source
is saying that the fact that victims aren’t considered people, article 6 is violated.

Interesting point that parties should not prosecute groups, similar between the two articles.
