SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY

NUTSHELL

1. Cite three other major scientific and technological developments in the world (or in
the Philippines) that created a large impact on your daily life?

 Mobile phones (Technology)

 Modern Automobile (Transportation)

 Vaccinations (Healthcare)

2. What historical antecedents gave rise to the inventions you mentioned in first
questions?
 Mobile phones (Technology)

The idea for mobile phone came from the service dates back at least to 1947, but the
first call was made from the sidewalk outside the Manhattan Hilton in 1973 by Martin
Cooper, a Motorola researcher who rang up his rival at AT&T Bell Labs to test the new
phone. Thirty years later, more than half of all Americans own one and cellular networks
are beginning to serve Internet access at broadband speeds through thin air. It has a big
impact in our lives and it is widely use wherein everyone can use it in different
activities especially today that we are currently facing pandemic. It is badly needed
because all the activities are via online process and also it helps us to connect in
every people in world no matter where we are, it is the way that we being connected
to each other now.

 Modern Automobile (Transportation)

The year 1886 is regarded as the birth year of the modern car when German
inventor Karl Benz patented his Benz Patent-Motorwagen. Karl Benz patented all of
the processes that made the internal combustion engine feasible for use in cars. Karl
Benz and his wife, Bertha Ringer Benz, were the founders of the Mercedes Benz
automobile manufacturing company. Cars became widely available in the early 20th
century. One of the first cars accessible to the masses was the 1908 Model T, an
American car manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. Today, there are many
people can afford cars and it helps us to go wherever we want and we can easily go
there because of transportation instead of walking only.

 Vaccinations (Healthcare)

Edward Jenner is considered the founder of vaccinology in the West in 1796, after
he inoculated a 13 year-old-boy with vaccinia virus (cowpox), and demonstrated
immunity to smallpox. In 1798, the first smallpox vaccine was developed. It is the first
vaccine that has been release before. Vaccines has a big impact in our lives wherein we
are being immune in different viruses and bacteria today. Today, we are currently
experiencing pandemic, we need to have vaccine to end this pandemic. There are
vaccines that are in different phases today. Everyone is hoping that those vaccine will
help us to end Covid19 and back to our normal life like before
