1. a) State the definition of the term ‘Kinetic Energy’.

with a speed of 6.3ms-1.

4. Calculate the kinetic energy of a car of mass 1600kg if it is travelling


at a speed of 104kmh-1.

5. Calculate the mass of an athlete if they are running with a speed


of 7.5ms-1 with a kinetic energy of 1913J.

6. Calculate the mass of an aeroplane on take-off if it has a speed of


65ms-1 and a kinetic energy of 1.84x108J.
7. Calculate the speed of a powerboat of mass 450kg if it has
9.5x105J of kinetic energy.

8. Calculate the speed of a bin lorry of mass 24 Tonnes if it has a


kinetic energy of 1.47x105J.

9. A car of mass1400kg at rest runs down a slope of height 7m.


At the bottom of the slope the car collides with a van.

Calculate or find:

a) The kinetic energy of the car at the bottom of the slope.

b) The speed of the car when it hits the van.

10. A roof tile of mass 1.6kg is dropped from scaffolding on a building


site at a height of 7.5m.

Calculate or find:

a) The kinetic energy of the tile as it hits the ground below.

b) The speed of the tile as it hits the ground below.

c) What assumptions have been made in the calculations in


this question?
