The auxiliary verb must agree with the subject:

Conditionals

Zero: Talk about things that are generally true, like laws and rules.
The structure is: If/when + present simple
Examples:
If I drink too much coffee, I can't sleep at night.
Ice melts if you heat it.
When the sun goes down, it gets dark.

First: Used to talk about possible or real future events and their results.
(unless, as long as, as song as, in case instead of if)
The structure is: If I when + present simple -> will + infinitive
Examples:
If we recycle, we will help the environment.
If we don't recycle, we won't help the environment.
I'll give you a key in case I'm not at home.
You can go to the party, as long as you're back by midnight.

Second: Used to imagine present or future situations that are impossible or


unlikely in reality.
The structure is: if + past simple -> would + infinitive
Examples:
If we had a garden, we could have a cat
I wouldn't worry if I were you
He would travel more if he was younger.
