Discussion board post 1.

Conformity

This discussion board post is worth 5% of your course unit grade. You
will be assigned to a discussion board group and will receive an email
with a link to your thread. You will be required to follow the link
(ensure you are logged in to Blackboard) and reply to the discussion
board thread in your group, following the guidelines below:

You will have until Friday of week 3 at 5pm (23rd October) to

contribute to discussion board post 1. If you have any questions at all,
come along to the live Q+A with Stacey and Doron on Friday (16 th
October) at 1pm (Zoom link available on Bb) and we can answer any
questions or concerns.

Part 1: Reply to the discussion board thread within your Bb discussion

board group. Think of an example of a time that you have been personally
influenced by others and conformed to their beliefs, attitudes or behaviour.
Describe how you were influenced and in what way you conformed to the
situation as well why you believe you conformed. Further, discuss, with
reference to the conformity literature, if you believe you were conforming
due to normative or informational influence (and why).

1. You will receive one mark for writing a relevant post in relation to this
topic (i..e, include an example, why you think you conformed and the
type of conformity).
2. You will receive one mark for your post being between 150-250
words.
3. You will receive one mark for including something to support why
you think this is informational or normative to show that you have
engaged with the online lecture materials. This can include making
reference to something relevant that was discussed in the online
conformity lecture materials, such as a definition, researchers’ names
or an example taken from the lecture.

Part 2: Once you have written your discussion board post, you should
respond to ONE other student’s post by clicking on their post and selecting
‘quote’ and in your response state whether you agree with their analysis of
the type of influence and whether you can relate to their description (i..e,
have been in a similar situation). You should see Part 2 as an opportunity to
simply connect with other students on the unit and the topic at hand. There
are no right and wrong answers for Part 2 but we do want to see that you
are connecting with each other.

4. You will receive one mark for an appropriate response between 50-
150 words.

You will receive one mark for each point you complete appropriately. You
can earn up to 4 marks and these will be transformed into 25%, 50%, 75%
or 100% for this part of your unit grade. Failure to engage with this task will
result in a mark of zero.
