snow was much more than the day before. [1]

(e) Reread paragraph 5 (The wind blew….grimacing).

Using your own words, explain why Grandpa had cause for concern?
- Grandpa had a cause of concern because the strong winds made the electricity pole move and the
wires were babbling and making sounds as opposed by the strong wind. This caused a case of
concern for Grandpa, hence the reason he shook his head in a grimace. [3]

(f) Re read the final paragraph (When the wind howled….. we could only wait).
Explain:
(i) How have the weather conditions changed from the first paragraph?
- The weather conditions now as compared to the first paragraph are way more intense. The
snow has become more severe and the wind has become more intense. The snow covers
the entire land. [2]
(ii) What do the final three sentences of the passage tell you about the effect of the snow on
the family’s situation?
- Since the snow was so severe it caused poles to fall down and the winds were so strong
that it was impossible to get out of the house. The family had to stay in until it all ended. [2]
