The article title, “Degree, diploma are not enough” is written by FR. BEL LUIS, SVD.

The article is about

education and the attitude of employer in the workforce. The main idea is that you can either graduate
with degree or diploma but if you don’t have honesty and integrity then all of the knowledge you have
gain will be not enough in the workforce. According to the article, the auther has many views and poins
mentioned regarding education. He claim that degrees, knowledge and skills gain by the graduents are
not enough. its not enough to be a brillient lawyer, and enterprising business man, an effecient public
servant. one must be an honest business man, a just lawyer and God fearing proffesinals.
he further on states that, "one problem faced by the graduents once they leave school is
MISEDUCATION. Meaning there is a yawning gap between what is taught in schools and what is practical
in some government services and business sector: values of honesty, intergrity, effeciency, hard work are
stressed in value-oriented curriculum, but the opposite is happening". he also stressed about the
government leaders and officials who should be paragons of virtues and expected to set good example
are the ones violeting the law. In short law enforcers law breakers. The author state some examples
about how public servants and government involed in corruption.
• barangay officials, poll clerks and even teachers in certain places have been accessory in the
commision of election anomalies in the past.
• cops and soldiers involved in holdups and multi million peso drug deals.
• civil servants promoted not on the basis of merit or achievement but on the personal
connections, not on what you know but on whom you know.

in conclusion about his views, the author belives that the only way to get rid of corruption is to be
honest and faithful and just in whatever you are doing even the people around you are doing the
opposite and also remember the words of the christ.
I totally agreed about the auther's statements and his views in the article. The main idea is about the
corruption in workforce. eventhough you have degree, knowledge and skills but if you dont have honesty
and if youre not a God fearing proffesionals, then youre one of the victim of corruption. the philippines
suffers from widespread corruption . means of corruption include graft, bribery, embezzlement,
backdoor deals, nepotism and patronage. indeed the world is worsening these days. corruption does not
only revolve in money, politics, business and government but also among people and how we live our
lives roughly every day. corruption is every where and is now considered as a way of living not only of
those who are in authority but also of the ordinary people. corruption nowadays as been part of our
lives.
corruption which has gone deep into our social life cannot be removed very easily. in fact it can only be
reduced or minimised, and can hardly be stopped altogether . corruhe ption is like a cancer which every
citizen must strive to cure. many people become materilistic and money oriented, there is no important
of ethics nad morals in business dealings. many people think that money which coming to their pocket is
good, same way many thinking that money which is going out from their pocket is bad, but they don
consider the way money travelling. this is because this kind of people have no moral accountability to
anybody. they believe that money can hold big role in their life and they believe that money can solve
their current and future problem. they believe that money can give them life without problems .
what can be remedy of corruption? it can be only possible if people can understand and start to belive
the values of ethics and morality in their life. poeple will start to believe that their life is accountable if
they really start to believe in God , and if they really start to live life on the way which God has chosen
for mankind. God has given the wisdom to each and every human being, that the way he/she is following
to get money is good or bad. the most important thing we individual should listen and follow the good
part of our heart.
foolproof laws should be made so that there is no room for discretion for politicians and bureaucrats. the
role of politicians should be minimized . respnsiveness, accountability and transparancy are a must for a
clean system .
the only solution to get rid of corruption altogether is if all citizens are honest and God fearing.
