#3 part B
Excerpt 1.
The main four bar phrase is repeated four times, and is a self contained melody over the same
harmony underneath. It contains four symmetrical phrase groups. The section also ends on a strong V
chord.
Excerpt 2.
The Harmonic structure of the excerpt is weak, staying away from I IV and V. The section is
longer than other functional sections and functions on top of a pedal in each phrase.
Excerpt 3.
This excerpt has a uniform rhythmic structure differing by one beat in the top half of the score
and the bottom half, this along with the active rhythmic structure is a highlight of the transitional
function this excerpt serves.
Excerpt 4.
There is a change in tonality in this excerpt, along with a change in texture in the middle section.
There is a recall of material from earlier in the work in the middle section. That mark this as
parenthetical, before finally settling into a tonic chord at 313 with a closing function.
Excerpt 5
The first four measures of this piece are introductory, serving as an anchor point in the home
key before the melody is brought to the forefront serving as an introduction.
