Dr.

Salim Matar
ENT

1. Please describe your typical day.

Go to hospital do scheduled surgeries on patients starting at 7:30 am, enter dr orders into the computer,
discharge patients if outpatient surgery and admit those pts who are AM Admits. Go to my private office
practice and see scheduled patients, enter notes, send in prescriptions, go back to hospital to round on
patients make sure all are comfortable and answer any questions that pt or family members may have. Go
home and be on call if anyone needs such as nurses, ER, in patients etc.

2. What do you enjoy most and least about your job?

Mostly I love the patient outcomes and the fact that I can help those with their medical needs. I dont love
dealing with insurance companies telling me what tests and medications I should and should not order due to
expenses. The authorization process is very time consuming.

3. What are your typical work hours?

My typical work hours are 7am to 6/6:30 pm and then ALWAYS on call so technically never completely off.

4. What can an entry-level worker expect to get paid to do a job such as yours?
Entry level workers median salary depending on salaried or private practice is approximately $400,000 + a
year.
5. What are opportunities for career advancement? How would an entry level worker get promoted or
grow?
An entry level worker can grow by doing research on the side, doing a superspecialty within their specialty
such as an otolaryngologist specializing in otology or pediatric ENT, or head & Neck such as myself

6. What is your educational background? What certifications do you hold? What degrees or certifications
do professionals in this field typically have?

Syracuse undergraduate then medical school at American university of Beirut then residency at Vanderbilt
university

7. Please comment on diversity within your clientele and workplace.

Diversity is everywhere, every different racial background have health problems... I help them ALL... as far
as at the workplace I hire according to education and the persons moral/ethic conduct. You need to be a
caring and empathetic person willing to help Everyone

8. Do you prefer working in a hospital over where you are located now?

Hospital work I think is a necessity when someone first gets out of residency.. I feel like it exposes you to all
different kinds of medicine and you learn the whole process of hospitalization from the patient side to the
business side. The hospital is more of a salary type job vs a private practice without having to answer to a
boss. At this time of my life I would much rather stay in private practice as I am.
