At least three physical properties for each piece of evidence.

For pieces of evidence that are in

the form of a representation, like a cardboard cutout, list possible physical properties that a real
version of the item might have

evidence Physical properties

firearm Metal, shiny, black

Ammunition (bullet) Metal, hard, silver

white powder White, scattered, soft

paper White, thin, square

Light hair Blonde, long, thin

Dark hair brown/black, thick, short

cup Plastic, decorated, tall

Pool of blood Red, wet, spilled

At least two sentences explaining why you think it would or would not be useful to
determine the chemical properties of any of the evidence. It would be useful to determine
the chemical properties of any of the evidence listed above as it would help classify and identify
the substance and store it accordingly. It would also help predict the substance’s uses

A paragraph discussing the class or individual characteristics of each piece of evidence.

Both the hairs are different, meaning that each belonged to a different person, the white
powder, since it was close to the cup probably means it was a sort of drug, the gun was found
near the body, and the pool of blood close to the head, suggesting suicide. The individual
characteristics of the the evidence can help give clues as to what happened at the crime scene

Based on the evidence you collected at the crime scene, which four tests would you run,
and on which items? Provide a short paragraph explaining your choices. Also, provide a
paragraph that describes, in detail, how exactly each test would be carried out

I would choose to run the hair analysis on the hair, blood splatter analysis on the blood,
firearm analysis on the gun, and finally drug testing on the white powder. These tests were
chosen accordingly because they are specialized, and best suited to each piece of evidence.
A Hair analysis would be carried out by the examination of hair strands by microscopy,
which can help tell whether it was forcibly pulled out, damaged or artificially treated,
furthermore, a comparison microscope to view a known hair sample and an unknown sample
alongside one another can help see if they share similar characteristics and could have come
from the same source. A Blood splatter analysis uses an analysis of the color, shape, and size
of blood stains at a crime scene, and the principles of fluid mechanics and biology to figure out
the nature and proceedings of a crime scene. They also determine the angle of impact that
caused a blood stain in order to determine the blood's origin and the amount of force behind it.
A Firearm analysis looks for fingerprints on the weapon and cartridges and examines unique
striations, scratches left behind on the bullet and weapon. A Drug analysis first goes through a
screening test which indicates if the sample could be a controlled substance, substances other
than controlled substances may produce positive results with these tests (false positives), so,
confirmatory tests that are substance-specific must be performed in order to positively identify
the substance.
