- thousands upon thousands of cemeteries


- endless monuments, even Americans have huge cemeteries despite coming late to the war
- German Jews were immensely proud of that fact that they were Germans and fought for
Germany. German cemeteries were had Christian crosses and Jewish Star of David side by
side.
- "Adanac" cemetery for Canadians. Canada spelled backward, country upside down
- "All quiet on the Western Front" - first real book about the war, sold millions of copies
- War democratizes urge to find new ideas
- Mona Lisa - representation of the eternal feminine. LHOOQ - Mona Lisa has a hot ass.
Nonsensical humor born in the trenches. Humor is a means of survival. DADA - anger, dark
humor
- The urinal was chosen the greatest monument of the 20th century.
- How do things connect? The only sense is nonsense. Frustration and anger.
- Marcel Proust - wrote a fluid, flowing novel. A stream of consciousness
- E. E. cummings - no more capital letters, the old rhyme and harmony will not do. Ambulance
driver during the war.
- Franz Kafka - writes a short story about a clerk because he's turned into a bug.
