Good morning to our classmates and our teacher, we believe that internet are better than books in

terms of accessibility, convenience, and relevance of information.

First on accessibility. According to DICT or the Department of Information and Communication

Technology, Internet penetration in the Philippines was reported at 63 percent of the country's total 105
million population in 2018. This translates to about 67 million Filipinos, with almost all of them active in
the internet. An accessibility that covers more than half of the Philippines in comparison to the
accessibility of books in public school settings. According to DepEd (SY 2010-2011), they estimates 34.7
million textbook deficiency for 23.43 million students of which 86% are in the public school system.
Meaning, we are lacking 34.7 million textbooks for the use of Filipino students. That much shows how
internet is better than unavailable books.

Second on convenience, internet can be accessed in many forms. Through internet shops, phones, and
many more gadgets that in our time and generation is as abundant as electricity. Comparing it to books,
due to the lack of textbooks in public schools, textbooks that have soft copies in the internet and you
can search for it easily, the only place to access books nowadays are on libraries. If you are going to
search for an answer to an assignment, you’d have to spend hours trying to look up for the right book.
Unlike when using the internet, a few types can be made and when you hit search an answer can
already be found.

Lastly, in terms of relevance of information. What is relevant, anyways? Relevant means appropriate to
the current time, period, or circumstances; of contemporary interest. According to Tophat.com, the
downside of textbooks is that it takes 3-4 years before it is revised but even then, not all textbook
publishers revise their books every 3-4 years, only 70% of them which explains how in some cases, a
books contradicts the information’s of other books. The end scenario in this is that, to verify which of
the two textbook is more relevant, we have to turn to the internet for the answer.

Seeing how Internet have made things easier in terms of convenience, accessibility, and relevance of
information, we do believe that Internet is better than books.
