Standard Designs
The standard precast concrete box section produced
under Standards C1433 and C1577 is shown in Figure 1, Table 2 Standard Thicknesses
and the standard sizes and wall thicknesses are shown Span TT, inches TB, inches TS, inches
in Tables 1 and 2. The standard sizes have 45-degree Feet

HYDRAULICS OF SEWERS
H
H The hydraulic characteristics of precast concrete box
sections are similar to those for circular, arch and elliptical
pipe. The most widely accepted formula for evaluating the
hydraulic capacity of non-pressure conduit is the Manning
T
S Formula. This formula is:
SPAN
1.486
RISE Q = x A x R2/3 x S 1/2 (1)
n
Where:
T Q = discharge in cubic feet per second
B
n = Manning’s roughness coefficient
Note: The haunch dimension H, is equal to the wall thickness T A = cross-sectional area of flow, square feet
s.
Headwall parallel to embankment (no wing Wing walls at 10O to 25O to barrel
walls) Square-edged at crown 0.5
Square-edged on 3 edges 0.5
Rounded on 3 edges to radius* of span/12 or 0.2 Wing walls parallel (extension of sides)
rise/12 or beveled edges on 3 sides Square-edged at crown 0.7
Wing walls at 30O to 75O to barrel Side-or-slope-tapered inlet 0.2
