Suspensions are scattered throughout the piece, but are found most at the end of phrases from

emphasis and a sense of closure along with ending cadences to more smoothly transition to a
different phrase where the melody takes on a different direction. Escape tones are seen in all 3
voices and are also seen where there is a sort of “pause” in the piece that has a lighter feel that
has a feeling of transition as well but not as pronounced as the one caused by the suspensions.
It can be inferred that most of the altered parts of the piece, especially in the melody are in the
rhythmic parts with shor, quarter notes that can be seen as grace notes of sorts to make the
melody more interesting compared to its original form.
