Description
IBIS (Input Output Buffer Information System) is a fast and accurate behavioral method of modeling
I/O buffers based on V/I curve data, derived from measurement or SPICE simulation. IBIS describes
the analog behavior of the buffers of a digital device, without revealing the proprietary internal
process or architecture information of the devices.
Altera Corporation is among many semiconductor vendors that provide IBIS models for modeling
its devices. Altera provides IBIS models or other simulation model support for all of its device
families. IBIS models consist of look-up tables required to behaviorally model a device's input,
output and I/O buffers without revealing the proprietary information of the device.
In general, an Altera IBIS model contains the following information:
1. The buffer's output I/V characteristics when the output is driven LOW.
2. The buffer's output I/V characteristics when the output is driven HIGH.
4. The time taken to change the output states (from LOW to HIGH and vice versa).
Also, this data is extracted for typical case, worst case (weak transistor, high temperature and low
voltage) and best case (strong transistor, low temperature and high voltage)
