A HISTORY CREATED BY MALAYSIAN RIDER

Sports in Malaysia are an important part of Malaysian culture.In Malaysia,sports are


popular from the aspect of participation and also the spectating aspect.Malaysians from different
races taking parts in the varieties of sports held in the country throughout the year.In the
spectating aspect,there were six sports with the most fans which are football,field
hockey,rugby,badminton,basketball and also a sport which seems getting a place in the
Malaysian’s heart,the motorcycle sports.In the past few years,the Malaysian riders had shown
dramatical performance in the Grand Prix motorcycle racing or as known as MotoGP.In the early
2018,The MotoGP phenomenon become more interesting after Hafizh Syahrin had signed a two
years contract with the Monster Yamaha Tech3 which makes him become the first Malaysian
and also the first ever Southeast Asian to perform in the highest superbike racing competition
level.

Hafizh Syahrin was born on 5th of May 1994 in Ampang,Selangor.He began his career at
the age of 9 in pocket bikes.It was not long before his talent began to show after his racing debut
on pocket bikes the following year.In 2007,at the age of 13,Hafizh made his debut in the Cub
Prix championship in dominating style finishing his first year on the Yamaha135 Cup class
second overall.In 2009,Hafizh switched to race against his more illustrious and seasoned seniors
in the Expert category and he manage to finish third in the Asia Road Racing Championship for
115cc class.2010 was also significant as the 16 years old made the step to the bigger league,the
Petronas Asia Road Racing Championship aboard a 600cc SuperSport bike.After waiting about
four years,Hafizh was offered by Petronas Raceline Malaysia team into Moto2 category.

In 2017,Hafizh made a slow start to the season with an average performance before
making an impact when he took a podium in third position,then later up to second position
because of disqualification on the second place winner at the San Marino Grand Prix.Later,he
had another stunning result by taking third position in a wet race at the Japanese Grand
Prix.Hafizh ended that season in top ten with one hundred six points overall.

2018 was a remarkable year for all Malaysians especially the motorcycle fans as Hafizh
Syahrin was offered by Monster Yamaha Tech3 team to become their second rider for the
team.Monster Yamaha Tech3 team was delighted about his potential and signed Hafizh to fill
Jonas Folger’s seat for the 2018 season.His nicknamed ‘El Pescao’ which means the ‘little fish’
as tribute to his seemingly amazing ability riding in the wet condition.Using bike number 55
which he choose upon his birthday,his partner Johann Zarco really happy with Hafizh
appearance in the team.In the first race in Qatar,he made a surprising result after manage to
collect 14 points,leaving the senior riders in MotoGP.In the last circuit in German,he manage to
finished at the 11th place and collect 11 points..Now,Hafizh already manage to collect 22 points
in 9 races that he took place making him now at the 16th place overall among the 27 riders in
MotoGP.
