Career Related Questions:

● As a performer, what do you like to see when working with a composer? What

do you like best in regards to the engraving of the music, communication, the

content of the music itself, etc.?

● As a fairly good pianist and oboist, and hopefully a fairly good jazz pianist and

organist upon graduating from BYU, where can I find performance opportunities

for those instruments, ideally ones that provide monetary gain? I don’t think I’ll

ever be a professional performer of any of them, but I would really like to play all

those instruments in solo, chamber, and ensemble settings in the future.

● When teaching, what do you do if a student asks you a question and you don’t

know the answer, and you can’t find the answer? Also, what do you do if you

ever slip up and say something incorrect (i.e. saying a certain melody is from the

wrong piece, or saying a note is an A when it’s really an Ab)?

● What do you do when experiencing severe burnout/a creative block, but you

have deadlines for things coming up? How do you maintain inspiration and

passion for music?

Project:

● I researched publishing companies, the process of publishing and self-publishing

compositions, and copyright laws in the United States and internationally.

● I submitted my best work to a few free self-publishing websites, and a couple of

free websites that publish it themselves.

● I got in contact with a representative from a publishing company that is very open

to answering any questions about publishing, both in regards to their company

and in general.
