When you ask for information you can use indirect questions to be more polite.

Where’s Jane’s car?_______ I wonder if you could tell me where Jane’s car is.

When did she leave?________ Do you have any idea when she left?

How can you make these direct questions more polite?


1. Where’s the train station? Do you happen to know Where’s the train station?
2. Who’s that man over there? Do you have any idea Who’s that man over there?
3. What time does the library close? Do you happen to know What time does the library close
4. Is it raining? Can you tell me Is it raining?
5. How long does the movie last? Do you happen to know How long does the movie last?
