When I Went to Tita’s House

As I arrived, my mother talked with Tita,

And left shortly after.
Giddo and I went to the kitchen,
Grabbing sweet candy on our way.

When I wen to Tita’s house,

We played board games.
Laughter filled the room
As we accused each other of cheating.

When we were done,

Tita would covered the table
With a bright table cloth
And dinner, usually spaghetti.

When I went to Tita’s house,

Giddo and I raked leaves.
The cold fall air, fresh and crisp.
We’d make piles
I’d jump in them,
Causing us to start all over.

When we went back inside,

Our hands and fingers freezing,
We were greeted with rich hot chocolate.

When I went to Tita’s house,

We ate pie for dessert.
It always smelled delicious.
If we were lucky,
We’d also get a scoop of ice cream.

Giddo and I built houses with Lincoln Logs.

We’d see how high we could stack them
And Tita would judge
To see whose house was the best.

When I went to Tita’s house,

I would take a hot shower
Using floral soap
With some obscure name,
Like “Beautiful Day.”

When I was done,

Tita helped me do my hair.
She would brush and dry it
With the loudest hair dryer in the world.

When I went to Tita’s house,

I would curl up
Under the warm blankets of a comfy bed,
Falling asleep the the sound of the TV.
