Giving directions
This lesson you will be learning how to give directions to another person when they ask you
for directions on how to go somewhere.  and also give examples of how to ask for directions
as well. 

 Turn right
(Belok kanan)
 Turn left
(Belok kiri)
 Go straight
(Jalan lurus)
 Go down
(Turun)
 Turn back
(Berbalik)
 Pass
(Melewati)
 See intersection
(Lihat persimpangan)
 See t-junction
(Lihat pertigaan)

How to give directions to somebody else 

Example :

 Go straight on till you see the hospital then turn left.


(lurus terus sampai kamu melihat rumah sakit lalu belok kiri)
 Turn back, you have gone past the turning.
  (kembali, tujuanmu sudah terlewat)
 Turn left when you see a roundabout.
  (belok kiri ketika kamu melihat bunderan)
 Turn right at the end of the road and hospital room is number 67.
  (belok kanan di akhir jalan dan nomor ruangan rumah sakit adalah 67)
 Cross the junction and keep going for about 1 mile.
  (sebrangi persimpangan dan lurus terus sekitar 1 mil)
 Take the third road on the right and you will see nurse room on the right
  (ambil jalur ketiga di sebelah kanan dan kamu akan melihat ruang perawat di sebelah
kanan)
 Take the third road on the right and you will see the shop on the left
  (ambil jalur ketiga di sebelah kanan dan kamu akan melihat kantin di bagian kiri)
 Take the second road on the left and you will see the mortuary on the left
  (ambil jalur kedua di sebelah kiri dan kamu akan melihat kamar jenazah di sebelah kiri)
 Take the second road on the left and you will see the hospital straight ahead
  (ambil jalur kedua di sebelah kiri dan kamu akan melihat rumah sakit didepan)
 The hospital is opposite the railway station.
  (rumah sakit ada di seberang stasiun kereta)
 The shop is near the hospital.
  (toko ada di sekitar rumah sakit)
 The shop is in between the chemist and KFC.
  (tokonya ada di antara ahli kimia dan KFC)
 At the end of the road you will see a apotik
  (di ujung jalan kamu akan melihat apotek)
 At the corner of the road you will see room anggrek
  (di pojok jalan kamu akan menemukan ruangan anggrek)
 Go straight on at registration place
  (lurus saja dari tempat pendaftaran)
 turn right at the crossroads.
  (belok kanan di persimpangan)
 Follow the signposts for UGD
(Ikuti rambu jalan untuki pergi ke UGD)

Giving directions conversation

When giving directions to someone it is best to use short basic English sentences. Speak
slowly when talking to the other person and spell out words if they don't understand and if
possible draw a map.

Example the dialog :

Woman: Excuse me. Can you help me, please?

Security: What can I do for you?

Woman: I want to go to the ward room number 404. But I can’t find it.

Security: The ward is in the 4th floor, Ma’am. The room you’re looking for is the fourth room

  from the elevator.

Woman: How can I get to the 4th floor? Can I use the elevator?

Security: You can take the stairs or the elevator for visitor.

Woman: Alright. Thank you.

Security: You’re welcome


Offering something

Offering something is a type of expression that we use when we want to offer something to
someone else. If AA patient in hospital needs different and various meals. It depends on his /
her disease. Hospital patients are served breakfast, a morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack
and dinner. There fore, this unit gives some useful expressions that can be used at a nurse
work.

When making offers, we use the following exprrsions ( saat mengajukan penawaran , kita
sering menggunakan ungkapan berikut :

May I ... ?

Can I ....?

Shall I ...?

How about I...?

Would you..?

Example :

May I give you a hand...?

Can I help you...?

Shall bring you some tea...?

Would you like another piece of cake...?


How about I help you with this ....?

Can I clean the car for you..?

I Will do the washing , of you like ??

Example the dialog :

Nurse: Good morning! How may I help you?

Girl: Good morning. I’d like to make an appointment with Dr. Mayer.

Nurse: Great. What seems to be your problem?

Girl: I’m here to check up on my stomachache.

Nurse: Certainly. Have you been here before?

Girl: Yes, I have been here before.

Nurse: I need to check your identity first. What is your name?

Girl: My name is Jen Wither.

Nurse: Can you spell your name, please?

Girl: Jen Wither. J-E-N W-I-T-H-E-R.

Nurse: Of course, Ms. Wither. You’re registered on the database.

Girl: When is Dr. Mayer available?

Nurse: Dr. Mayer will be available today in around half an hour. You can wait on the waiting
room and we will inform you when it’s your turn.

Girl: Sure. Thank you.

Nurse: You’re welcome.
