1. What materials make up biomass fuels?

Scrap lumber, forest debris, certain crops, manure and some types of waste residues.

2. What is biomass?

It is a fuel that is developed from organic matter and is a renewable and sustainable source of
energy that is used to generate electricity and other forms of energy.

ReEnergy Holdings

4. How does ReEnergy Holdings work?

collect, process and recycle items for use as fuel, as well as green energy facilities that are
generated from these wastes.

5. What was the percentage of biomass fuels in 2010 in the US?

Approximately 46% was from wood and wood-derived biomass, 43% was from biofuel
(ethanol) and 11% was from municipal waste.

Task 2

1) How is biogas produced?

Through a biological treatment that occurs when the organic matter is manure and agricultural
wastewater

2) What is the process?

It begins when the organic matter substrate is taken to the plant by trucks and they are placed
in holding tanks and water is added to form a mixture, it is fed in a fermentation dome that
does not have night light or oxygen and is then stirred.

3) What is the main component of biogas?

It is a mixture of gases whose main components are methane and carbon dioxide, produced
from the fermentation of organic matter in the absence of air by the action of microorganisms.
