Dear sir /Madam,

My name is Omoko Denish, a Ugandan national. Allow me to first of all express my deepest
thanks to the East African Community Scholarship board for their hard work and for giving me
the opportunity to participate in this Scholarship’s selection process. May the Almighty God bless
all the board members. I am writing to express my deepest interest in applying for a scholarship to
study MSc. in Crop Protection (Pathology option) at Kenyatta University.
I have studied Biotechnology at Makerere University, Uganda from 2012-2020 and acquired a
bachelor of science in Biotechnology in January this year. During the three years university-life, I
was imparted plenty of biotechnological knowledge, including microbiology, plant pathology,
virology, genomics and bioinformatics, molecular defense mechanisms in plants. I am currently
working as a volunteer at National Crops Resources Research Institute (NaCRRI), Uganda. My
profession responsibilities includes performing molecular diagnostic tests for detection and
identification of various plant diseases, including those that cause cassava mosaic disease, cassava
brown streak disease. I believe that my education qualification and work experience provides me
with a strong foundation for this programme.
My passion strongly lies in crop protection especially in the area of pathology and my dream has
always been to further my education in this field. The opportunity to realize this dream on a foreign
soil and in an institution such as Kenyatta University with multiple campuses, good reputation of
high-quality education standards, an extremely distinguished faculty members and the largest
library in Africa are my driven motivation factors to apply for this programme.
With this programme, I see myself serving as a Crop inspector, researcher in an agricultural
research institute and an assistant lecturer passing the skills acquired from this programme to
students. This will allow me to contribute to the East African Community integration agenda, to
ensure food security and economic development through agricultural trade in the region. The
challenge of feeding the current and future population is widely recognized, and the management
of crop pests and diseases has an important role to play in overcoming this. I believe that this
programme will impart to me new technologies and different plant pathology concepts and its
applications to more complex real life situations, including modern diagnostic techniques, pest and
disease resistance by plants, biological control, etc. I will be in a good position to apply these
scientific concepts in managing plant diseases and pests which are among the major threats to food
security and income generation in the region. This master’s programme will move me one step
closer to my future professional and academic objectives, to acquire a doctoral degree in plant
pathology and become a senior lecturer in the next 5- 10 years.

I believe my qualification aligns well with the requirements for this programme. I will be happy
to provide any further information or documents if required. I look forward to your positive
response. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Kind regards,

Omoko Denish
