Professional Philosophy

As a Media Specialist, it is my professional belief that the school library is the “heart” of

the school, building a solid foundation for child development. The goal is to encourage academic

achievement for the whole child. The climate of the school library promotes a genuine concern

for all children. We embed our love of reading and learning in each of our students. Media

Specialists should provide the necessary training for our scholars to effectively use all sources of

technology, such as desktop computers, laptops, tablets, iPads, printers, and Smart Panels. Our

audiovisual equipment, technology resources, print, and non-print materials remain current for

all students, faculty, and staff. The key to ensuring our students are prepared for an information

and technology-rich environment is the collaboration between the media specialist and teachers.

Students should see the school library as, not only a place to conduct research, but also an

experience of enjoyment.

The Moore Elementary Media Center ensures that both students and staff members are

effective and ethical users of ideas and information.  The media center empowers students to be

critical thinkers, inspire readers from all Lexile reading levels, explore text from various types of

technology which advances their online research skills, implement read aloud(s) or book clubs to

improve or develop comprehension within a comfy learning space geared towards the growth of

a 21 century learner.
