Even though today’s media is quick to spotlight the most novel or groundbreaking scientific

advancements, one would be hard-pressed to dismiss art as anything less important than technology
itself. Art is ubiquitous in everyday life and references every part of it, in order to reveal the beauty and
profundities hidden to the eyes of the beholder. It is this unique characteristic that allows art to
transcend the practical values of science, and renders it central to the human experience.

Art promotes the realization of life’s full potential for the individual. Whereas technology is a
product of humans’ innate curiosity and satisfies mundane needs for safety and convenience, the arts is
the embodiment of their drive for personal growth, and one path towards self-actualization. However
accurate and advanced the sciences of human behavior and psychology may be, they are incomparable
to the inherent effectiveness of art in this department. For example, although people may comprehend
the brutality of war via statistics and records, one might not perceive it with the same gravity but for the
artists who preserved the memories of it for posterity. The superiority of art, in this case as in any other,
is that its aesthetics invites the beholders to unlock and develop previously concealed parts of
themselves through instinctive empathy towards the emotions of others, no matter how separated they
are geographically or chronologically, thus enabling them to embrace their inner, fullest humanity.
