SUMMARY

Brinjal (Solanum melongena L.) a popular vegetable can be grown throughout the year in
almost all the states of Malaysia. Brinjal fruit contains carbohydrates, protein, fat, calcium,
phosphorus, iron and other minerals. The fruit is very good for general health and can reduce
disease like diabetes, asthma, cholera, bronchitis and diarrhea. Plant growth regulators are
known to influence on higher yields as well as quality in horticultural crops. Delay flowering
and a short period of fruit harvesting constraints in brinjal cultivation. The paclobutrazol
(PBZ) can improve plant physiology and growth, yield and quality of crops. Plant growth
regulators can induce early flowering and regulates ripening in various crops. An experiment
will be conducted to determine the effects of PBZ on growth, yield and quality of Brinjal.
Selected plant growth and developmental parameters will be monitored and recorded during
the experimental period. The objective of the present study is to evaluate the potential effects
of PBZ on the growth, yield and quality of Brinjal under polybagged condition. All the
polybagged Brinjal plants will be treated with six different concentration of PBZ (0, 25, 50,
100, 150, 200 mg/L). Treatments will be applied once during the experimental period and
200 ml of PBZ will be applied at root zone for each treatment. This experiment will be
carried out with Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 replications. Treatment 1 will
be act as a control without PBZ application. The one way repeated ANOVA will be applied
to evaluate significant differences in the parameter study for different treatments. It is hoped
that PBZ treatment will increase growth, yield and quality of Brinjal.
