The Barranquilla carnival

The Barranquilla Carnival its a carnaval that its pretty important in the
colombian colture and has remote origin in the Carnival that came to America
from Spain. The first Carnival celebrated in the city is lost in history more than a
century ago, when Barranquilla was a very small town. However, various stories
have circulated referring to the way the Barranquilla people celebrated Carnival;
Its always naive, graceful, festive and above all healthy form have allowed a
tradition that goes back three centuries to be preserved. Carnival parties, of
European origin, were introduced to America by the Spanish and Portuguese.
Those of Barranquilla have a close history in the celebration that took place in
Cartagena de Indias, in colonial times, as a slave festival; At that time, blacks
appeared in the streets with typical instruments and special clothes, dancing
and singing.
In the Barranquilla carnival it is so customary to eat coastal food such as kid
fish, which is fish stuffed with chili, onion, salt, pepper and oil, grilled over
charcoal, clown rice (rice with vegetables, mullet meat and egg hard), served on
a bijao leaf (local plant) accompanied with salad or a piece of yucca bun. Also
typical are arepas, sancocho de guandú, fried mojarra con patacones (fried
sliced banana) and rice with coconut, stuffed potatoes, and, finally, carimañolas
(yucca croquettes, cheese and shredded beef).
I have never actually been to the Barranquilla carnival or any other carnival, for
which I will not be able to do with my own experience in paragraphs 3 and 4, but
I have seen on the internet at school and because of things that have told me
that there are many things very special in this carnival, like the cultural dances,
the masks, the traditions and the absolutely wonderful parades that they do in
this celebration.
As I said before, I have nothing to say about how I felt or what I did because I
have not been to the carnival although I would be delighted to go.
