 Since the culture lesson was in a virtual environment, what was your biggest challenge

while planning the lesson?

Due to the lesson being in a virtual environment, the biggest challenged we faced in planning

the lesson was the organization method of our delivery. The lesson needed to be engaging

enough to keep students interested for a full 30 minutes and also have enough material to keep

students engaged for the full 30 minutes. We overcame this challenge by creating a power point

with the near pod software.

 In the planning the lesson, how did you accommodate for students since they were going

to complete the lesson independently?

We accommodated the students taking this lesson independently through the near pod software.

My group found that by using this software the students would not just be reading notes on their

own and taking a quiz, the entire lesson was interactive as if a teacher were teaching the lesson.

Using this software, we were able to ask questions throughout the video and presentations of our

power point as if we were in class. The software also allowed us to include pictures, video, notes,

virtual reality, and assessment in one place without students having to locate multiple sources.

 What are some advantages to having a lesson in a virtual environment? Disadvantages?

Some advantages of having a lesson in a virtual environment are that students can do the lesson

at their own pace and at a time that is convenient for them so they can be the most focused,

students being given two weeks to complete the assignment was beneficial too since they had

plenty of time to try out the lesson and reach out to the teachers with any questions.

Disadvantages to the lesson included no contact with students since no students actually ended
up needing help, and never knowing if students skipped through and guessed on the quizzes out

of laziness.

 How different would your lesson have been if it were taught live in the classroom? What

is at least one aspect that would have been completely different?

If the lesson were taught live in the classroom, the teachers would have never thought to use the

near pod software to accomplish this task. Truthfully, most questions asked throughout the

videos and presentations would have been thought of on the fly when we see the crowd zoning

out. Most likely, in the classroom students would stay engaged longer than in a virtual

environment so the games would not have been used so frequently.

 If you were to plan this lesson again for a virtual environment, what is one thing you

would do differently? Why?

If I were to plan this lesson again for a virtual environment I would add a separate before and

after segment to take place on Edmodo so that the entire class could interact in the comments

with their answers through responding and conversation about what they learned or if they have

ever travelled before.

 Did you achieve your objectives? How can you be sure? Looking back, was your

assessment effective? What is one thing you would do differently with assessment if you

had another opportunity to teach this lesson virtually?

Yes, we achieved our goals that each student was able to learn about the language, culture, and

education of Ecuador. I am sure of this because of each assessment’s results given to us by the

near pod software. I think that our assessments were effective since they were spread out through

the lesson.
