Definitions of Doctrine

 A principle or body of principles presented for acceptance or belief, as by a religious,


political, scientific, or philosophic group; dogma.
 A rule or principle of law, especially when established by precedent.
 A statement of official government policy, especially in foreign affairs and military
strategy. - The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition.

 (from Latin: doctrina, meaning "teaching, instruction") is a codification of beliefs or a body


of teachings or instructions, taught principles or positions, as the essence of teachings in a
given branch of knowledge or in a belief system. The etymological Greek analogue is

Different Types of Doctrine


 A legal doctrine is a framework, set of rules, procedural steps, or test, often established
through precedent in the common law, through which judgments can be determined in a
given legal case.

 Military doctrine is the expression of how military forces contribute to campaigns,


major operations, battles, and engagements.
o It is a guide to action, rather than being hard and fast rules. Doctrine provides a
common frame of reference across the military.
o It helps standardize operations, facilitating readiness by establishing common ways
of accomplishing military tasks.
 Religious doctrine - the written body of teachings of a religious group that are generally
accepted by that group.
o A Christian doctrine is what the entire Bible has to say on one particular subject.
Therefore, we speak of such things as the “doctrine” of Christ, the “doctrine” of God,
and the “doctrine” of the church. This refers to what Christians believe about these
subjects based upon the teaching of the Bible.
 Sound Doctrine
o *False Doctrine is any idea that adds to, takes away from, contradicts, or nullifies
the doctrine given in God’s Word.

Importance and Relevance of Doctrines


The Doctrines in general sense it is important in guiding the person or a group of people on
which path do they take or in making wise decision in life. It provides the rules and principles that an
individual, groups or organizations should follow or comply and must apply in their ways of living like
taking responsibilities or decision making for the benefit of every human being not only to the benefit
of one specific person. However, doctrines must be sound or truthful and for the good of every
individual, it must not be a tool of deceptions. It is important in uniting every individual into a group

of well-disciplined people instilling the doctrines in their minds which guides their acts anywhere,
anytime and always in their life. Moreover, a sound and true doctrines will prove and negate all those

false doctrines, therefore people will be guided as against false one. It standardized the actions
made in achieving the goals or tasks and also it serves as the basis of strength of every person who
acknowledged, follow or comply such doctrine. A pure doctrine always has an answer to every
question and solutions to every problem. Hence, doctrine must not be ignored or neglected.

Specifically, as a Christian the Christ doctrine or God’s doctrines are very important in
guiding us in this life especially in serving our creator and great provider. It helps us in distinguishing
right from wrong, teaches us what to do in every situation that needs a wise decision, makes us a
better person and a citizen, also it gives hope to every people in times of many trials. It shows us the
way to salvation, safety from danger and it teaches us how to appreciate the blessings we have
received everyday of our existence. In addition, the importance of doctrines can be also found in the
words of God written in the bible and to the doctrine itself. Furthermore, there are many reasons why
is the doctrines are important and those could be discussed in God’s Doctrines.
