Research Adviser: Marlon S. Frias, Ph.D.
The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of personality
traits and teaching skills of mathematics teachers on the acquisition of mathematics educational values of the college education students at San Agustin Institute of Technology. This study utilized the quantitative approach through descriptive correlational research method. The research was conducted among the education students from the first year to the fourth year for School Year 2018- 2019. Using stratified sampling, 173 college education students were selected as respondents. The data were gathered using the questionnaire and treated through descriptive and inferential statistics such as mean, Pearson product- moment correlation, and stepwise regression. Based on the result, the teacher’s personality traits and the teaching skills were positively viewed. The same expectations were revealed in the level of mathematics educational values of the students in terms of accuracy, creativity, and flexibility. Moreover, personality traits and teaching skills significantly correlated to the mathematics educational values acquisition. Correspondingly, the teaching skills indicated to be the best predictor in mathematics educational values acquisition. Thus, teachers’ personality traits and teaching skills are important factors in developing students’ educational values acquisition among the students as it drives them to become accurate, creative, and flexible, making them prepared for real-life situations that may come ahead of them.
