ABSTRACT
Background : Advances in the treatment and use of chemotherapy in recent times has been
shown to improve the rate of life expectancy for colorectal cancer patients. Studies
conducted in China and Hongkong have shown that CapeOX (Capecitabine+Oxaliplatin)
combination chemotherapy regimens are more commonly used and its same as in Europe
and the Unites States. However, the use of chemotherapy drugs containing oxaliplatin and
capecitabine can cause side effects such as hematological toxicity which is one of them is
anemia.
Objective : The purpose of this study is to determine the incidence of hemoglobin toxicity in
colorectal cancer patients undergoing CapeOX chemotherapy
Methods : Design in this study is hystorical retrospective cohort. The sample of this study
was 70 colorectal cancer patients who received CapeOX chemotherapy for 6 cycles at
RSUD Dr. H. Abdul Moeloek in 2018-2019. The sampling technique uses consecutive
sampling. Data analysis using Paired T-Test.
Result :There was a statistically significant decrease in mean hemoglobin levels in
colorectal cancer patients who received CapeOX chemotherapy for 6 cycles with p value
<0.005. And there was increase in the number of patients who get hemoglobin toxicity
along with the addition of the chemotherapy cycle. Where in the first cycle was found 59
patients (84.3%) who get hemoglobin toxicity after chemotherapy and the number
continued to increase to 69 patients (98.6%) in the sixth cycle.
Conclusion : There was a significant decrease in the average level of hemoglobin in
colorectal patients who received chemotherapy with CapeOX regimen and an increase in
the number of patients who get hemoglobin toxicity along with the addition of the
chemotherapy cycle.
