Eohippus
if we could say so, a large number of different
used to be the oldest ancestor of the horse, its
skeleton used to be similar to that of a dog and
tiny, its height used to be 40 cm, its hind and
forelimbs used to end in 4 fingers and its teeth
used to be similar to that of a rodent.
Mesohippus
This horse used to be a little larger than the
eohippus, got used to only three fingers on its
hind and hind limbs, used to be 60 cm tall, and
lived until more than 26 years ago.
Merychippus
They are probably the ancestor with the most
similar features to the horse of today, but it
could still have three fingers on its limbs, but
more elongated and its height was 100 cm.
Pliohippus
This one already has a single helmet-shaped
finger, its height used to be 125cm and
probably gave rise to various races on the
continent.
Equus
They are possibly animals with anterior and
posterior limbs with a single finger which is
covered by a helmet, their fur has different
varieties depending on the species or habitat,
their neck must be made up of short hairs, and
they have 36 to 42 teeth.
Now the horse has modifications for war purposes,
types, depending on the weapons or the use that
will be given in combat; has specialized in such a
way that we find the saddle horse, light draft, heavy
draft, load etc., always bearing in mind that the war
horse is the “equine that, together with
morphological characteristics suitable for weapons
and means of combat in use, it meets conditions of
health, resistance, hardiness, strength and speed,
which make it suitable to endure painful and
continuous work ”. If we take into account the
previous definition, we will see that the horse that
meets these conditions is not only suitable for war,
but for any kind of work to which it is dedicated.
They had to have undergone several modifications not
only with regard to size, possibly also in their general
conformation and consequently in their physiology. the
main changes performed refer to the size, with formation
of the foot, volume of the skull, structure and evolution of
the teeth and perhaps the color.
One of the most important modifications must be the
relationship with the foot. the horse had to go from the
original polydactyl state to the current dactyl mode state.
