Art
Art, to some people may be just a hobby or an extracurricular at school. Others may
argue that it holds a dearer meaning to them. No matter anyone's opinion, it's more than just a
hobby; art is the power of expression, it is a way to express yourself without words. A lot of
people don't think about the real meaning behind the word art and all the power and emotion it
holds. The textbook definition never properly conveys its true meaning. When you google the
definition of art you get the blan meaning: “Art is the expression or application of human
creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form.” Although that definition is technically
correct, Art is too diverse and unclear to be explained in just one formal sentence. Art is
anything. Art is the emotion one conveys through their personal creative pieces, art is a story.
Art is full of emotion. It is not logical to call a work of art “trash”. Where one may see
garbage, another may find beauty. Art is all about perception; it's supposed to make the viewer
feel something, and if that is accomplished, then the piece has served its purpose. It is the
creator's emotions displayed in physical form for all eyes to see, it is raw and vulnerable. One
may not feel the artist’s emotions or relate, but that doesn't change the value of the piece. Art
leaves a mark behind with its viewer, it tells a story that only the viewer can decipher.
Over the years art has become more and more confined. People are taught from a young
age to color within the lines, to make sure their work is perfect, or it is not considered art. The
possibilities for creative perception have become less and less. Over time children and young

adults are conformed to fit into this tiny box of perfection. That is the most common
misconception within the art community; that art pieces must be perfect. Perfect lines, perfect
blending, perfect execution. Although that's not the point, creative expression is. Art is not meant
to fit into this tiny box, it's not clear or easy to understand. It’s an endless possibility of messages
and stories, an endless possibility of execution, tactics, and techniques. No one piece is like
another, every piece has its own personality drawn from the artists’ imagination and emotions.
There are hundreds of different kinds of art work and strategies. Abstract, realism, post-
impressionism, impressionism, pop art, cubism, and many more. No art form has more potential
than the others. Although, two art forms that go neck and neck in the art community today are
abstract and realism. Due to the belief that art has to follow certain rules and guidelines to be
considered “perfect” or even good, realism is the most sought after art form in the world today
because it is most like a photograph.. Contrary to that belief abstract art is not any less an art
from than realism. Abstract art has no limits or rules, it can be any color scheme, any medium,
any theme, which does not take away from its beauty. It just goes to prove that art is limitless
and can be whatever the artist desires it to be. People must stop teaching their children that they
Limitless, absorbing, boundless, complex, creative, and daring defines art. Art is a canvas
for the creator to tell his/her story and inflict emotion on their viewers. Art is a limitless
opportunity for artists to share feelings and beauty. Art can be cold, warm, loud, aggressive, soft,
or even shallow. There are no boundaries for what can be created and nothing can make a
creation any less an art piece. Art is about it’s creator, each piece has its own personality and
story and it's up to the viewer to take it in and feel it in their own way. Art isn't meant to be
