Does Fire needs Air to burn?

 Introduction
o Fire is a chemical reaction that creates light and heat from oxygen and fuel. A lit candle
needs to draw oxygen from the air in order to continue burning. If you limit the amount
of air available, the candle's flame eventually goes out once it uses up all the oxygen.
 Title
o Fire need air to burn
 Problem
o Does fire needs enough amount of air to keep burning?
 Aim
o To investigate the use of air in keeping the fire burning.
 Hypothesis
o When the amount of air is less, then the time taken for the fire to keep burning
will be lesser.
 Variables:
o Manipulated Variables: The size of jar
o Responding Variables: The time taken for the fire to keep burning
o Constant Variables: Candle
 Apparatus/ Materials:
o Candle, 4 glass jar in different sizes, Matches, marker, Pen or Pencil, Paper,
Stopwatch
 Safety Precaution:
o Take the help of an adult to light up the candle
 Precedure:
o Fix a candle firmly on a small lid with medelling clay.
o Place the modeling clay with the candle in a flat surface.
o Carefully light the candle with the help of teacher.
o After light up the candle carefully place a jar over the candle.
o Observe how long the candle burns.
o Use the stopwatch to record the time taken for the each candle to burns.
o Write the results in a piece of paper.
 Observation/ result

Jars Time taken for the fire to keep burns

A
B
C
D

 Conclusion: Hypothesis accepted. From the result, we can conclude that, When the
amount of air is lesser the time taken for the fire to keep burning is longer.
