Ithaca Gazette’s Weekly Celebrity Interview-

Telemachos

TELEMACHOS: THE HOTTEST BACHELOR IN ITHACA

A couple days ago, we met with the future king of our land, Telemachos. Along with getting the juiciest
details of his personal life, we also asked about this new adventure he is about to embark on. He will
soon be leaving Ithaca to try and find his father, the clever Odysseus.

IG: Hello Telemachos! Thank you so much for meeting with us today.

T: You are very welcome.

IG: First and foremost, how are you and your family?

T: We are all healthy and happy. Well, sort of. My mother is being mobbed over by suitors who are
trying to replace my father. It's hard work to keep them off her back. I remember once telling her, "Go
to your room and see about your own business, loom and distaff, and keep the servants to their work;
talking is always the man's part, and mine in particular, for the man rules the house" (pg. 19).

IG: You are such a responsible young man by taking care of your mother like that.

T: Yes, I'd like to think so. "It is impossible for me to turn out of doors the mother who bore me and
brought me up"(pg. 25).

IG: How adorable! Now, we also know that you are about to leave Ithaca to set on a journey to find your
father, Odysseus. Are you scared?
T: I don't think I can be afraid of anything while on this trip. It will take a lot of courage, but I've prayed
to the gods and they have answered my call. Athena once told me, "You will not lack either courage or
sense in the future, Telemachos, for we can see now that there is a drop in you of your father's fine
spirit"(pg. 28). Interactions like that are the ones that will help me get through the hard and lonely
times.

IG: You are so brave! With a strong and attractive personal drive like that, you must have girls climbing
all over you! Is this true?

T: I'm usually a modest man, but I can't help but quoting my dear friend Helen of Troy. She said, "I
declare I never saw any one so like, man or woman- it amazes me quite, how this young man looks
exactly like the son of Odysseus"(pg. 47). I hope that most women look at me for my personality and
aspirations, but unfortunately some women just want fame and fortune. Being the son of the great
Odysseus, women might just like me for my famous father.

IG: Growing up without your father must have made you mature quickly. You had to be the man of the
house, am I right?

T: Yes, it was very hard growing up without a strong male influence. I grew to be very overprotective of
my mother. King Menelaos told me that, "My friend, you speak like a man of sense, you are older than
your years; your father is just the same, you get it from him" (pg. 48). Knowing that I am even just a little
bit like my father boosts my ego a bit and makes me believe that I do have his courage to complete my
mission. Yet, if I am going to succeed in this journey, I am going to have to stay humble.

IG: Wow, you really are mature beyond your years. This was an enjoyable interview, and we wish you
the best of luck. Anyways, thank you so much for taking your time with us today!

So there you have it, fellow Ithacans. Telemachos really IS the most eligible bachelor in Ithaca. No one
can compete with his sense for family, his intelligence, his maturity, nor his courage and bravery. The
city of Ithaca will always be with him, even though he is taking this journey alone.
