What is the importance of the characterization of solids in the industry?

In the industry, solid particulates may exist as raw materials such as iron ores and rocks,
and as finished products such as cement. Characterization of solids will allow us to
understand their behavior and their processing and transport, proper storage, and
proper handling. With this knowledge, we will be able to design processes and
equipment used in different unit operations that handle solid materials.
