This study was conducted to investigated anti-inflamtory or the capability to suppress edema of

Boesenbergia pandurata. The Boesenbergia pandurata crude extract was fractionated with ethyl acetate
and aqueous fractions. The test was perfomed on paw rats induced by carrageenan. indometasin was
used as posistive control. Vehicle control also applied, and catechin also perfomed in test . result
showed that Boesenbergia pandurata crude extract doses of 30–300 mg/kg . clearly demonstrated anti-
inflammatory effects by reducing carrageenan-induced paw edema, as did the ethyl acetate (30mg/kg
-100 mg/kg) and aqueous fractions (30–100 mg/kg). In the inflammation rat animal model, the crude
extract of Boesenbergia pandurata at doses of 30–300 mg/kg and the ethyl acetate and aqueous
fractions at doses of 30–100 mg/kg and catechin reduced the edema volume. These result suggest that
the crude extract and the individual ethyl acetate and aqueous fractions of Boesenbergia pandurata
exhibited anti-inflammatory efficacy in rats, which supports Boesenbergia pandurata use in traditional
medicine to treatment inflammatory.
