It takes five hours to melt and cool the paraffin to optimum treatment temperature, Use before the five-hour start-up period could result in irritation or burning of the skin, Do not use Parabath Paraffin Heat Therapy while bathing, or near water. Do not place or store the unit where it can fall or be pulled into a sink or tub. Do not place, drop or submerge the “unit into water or any other liquid. Do not reach for a unit that has fallen into water; unplug immediately. Close supervision is necessary when the unit is used by or near children or invalids Use Parabath Paraffin Heat Therapy only for its intended use as described in this Owner's Guide. Do not use attachments not recommended by the manufacturer. Never operate the unit if it has a damaged cord or plug, iit is not working properly orifit has been damaged. Call The Hygenic Corporation for help in arranging for examination and /or repair of the unit Never operate the unit when the tank is empty or contains any substance other than Hygenic Brand paraffin. Do not use Parabath Paraffin Heat Therapy when you have open cuts or broken skin, inflammatory skin conditions or if you have been advised that you have peripheral vascular disease or impaired circulation. Ifin doubt, contact your clinician Discontinue use of Parabath Paraffin Heat Therapy immediately if undue perspiration or circulatory problems occur. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE Initial Preparation © Unpack Parabath* Paraffin Heat Therapy and place it on a sturdy, level surface. A table top is recommended. © IF YOUR UNIT IS ALREADY FILLED WITH PARAFFIN... pour the entire contents ofthe prafin il (provided) over the parafin block in the tank, Important: Do not operate Parabath without first adding the paraffin oil IF YOUR UNIT HAS SIX (6) PACKAGED PARAFFIN BARS....open all six bars using the easy open strip on the back of each package and place bars inside tank, making sure that bars touch the bottom of the tank Note: Parabath Paraffin Bars are pre-mixed with paraffin oil and there- fore do not require adding any additional ol. © Plug in the unit. The power light indicates that the unit is operating. © Place the cover on the unit. Allow the unit to operate a minimum of five hours before using, This allows the temperature to stabilize to the ‘units treatment range of 125° - 134°F/52° - 57°C. ) Treatment with Original Parabath® Paraffin Heat Therapy 1 2 3 Using an anti-bacterial soap, wash the area to be treated. ‘Thoroughly dry the skin. ‘To assure comfort, especially on the first use of heated paraffin, test the temperature. The paraffin should be between 125°F and 134°F/ 52° - 57°C. Begin slowly. For example, in treating the hand, begin by dipping just the fingertips into the paraffin, then continue to full immersion of the hand, Once you have submerged th entire hand, dip an additonal five - ten times to assure proper paraffin coverage. Or, keep your hand in the paraffin and enjoy the therapeutic heat therapy. Note: If paraffin is tobe used on the knee, bac, shoulder or othe body part tohics cannot be dipped in the unit, use a sft brush fo apply the paafin in successive cont. ‘Then cover the area with plastic trap and a towel fo retain heat ‘To maximize the benefit of paraffin treatment, remove your hand from the paraffin, place your hand in a plastic bag, and wrap it ina towel. Leave the paraffin on your hand for 20-30 minutes. If the heat becomes too intense, remove paraffin and wrap the body part in plastic and a towel or the specially designed Parabath thermal mitt system (sce pg. 11 for information). This will retain the heat for an extended period of time. ‘When treatment is completed, remove the towel and plastic and strip off the paraffin. If the unit is being used by more than one person, do not retum the used paraffin to the tank. Replace the cover on the unit, leaving the unit plugged in, ready for the next use. When adding paraffin to the tank, use care to avoid splashing. Never overfill the tank. Allow paraffin to melt completely before using, For units WITHOUT minimum/maximum fill Hines: Add additional paraffin to the tank when the level of paraffin falls to within approximately 3 inches of the bottom of the tank For units WITH minimum/maximum fill lines stamped into the stainless steel tank: The standard six pounds of paraffin supplied with the unit fills the tank approximately midway between these two lines. When the paraf- fin level falls to the minimum level line, add one or two pounds of paraffin to the tank.
