Avenir was designed by Swiss designer Adrian Frutiger and

released in 1988. It was inspired by typefaces of the early

20th century like Futura. However, Avenir reinterprets the
rational and functionalist approach of European modernism,
because Frutiger wanted to add organic humanism to the
design of the typeface. Avenir has been notably used
by several renowned companies, including Snapchat,
LG Electronics and Apple. Aside from its links with the
techworld, Avenir was also used in the campaign of French
president François Hollande for the 2012 elections, and
it is used in the ads and communications of the French
railway company SNCF.

Avenir is a geometric sans-serif, highly legible and with

a modern looking design. Among its characteristics, Avenir
barely has any modulation and it’s o’s feature a vertical axis.
However, unlike other geometric sans-serifs, the strokes
do have a subtle variation in weight, giving the typeface not
only a clean and simple look, but also a more human one.
Because of this, Avenir is considerably versatile.
